This policy explains what information Hornbill Games (“we”, “us”) handles when you use our mobile apps, the browser games on this website, and hornbillgames.com. Each app also has its own short policy with app-specific details; if they differ, the app policy wins for that app.
The short version
- You never need an account to play our games.
- We do not ask for your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos or precise location in our games.
- Settings and progress are stored on your device, not on our servers. We do not run game servers.
- Our apps show ads through Google AdMob. Google may collect device identifiers and usage data to show, measure and limit ads, as described below.
- Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, UK and Switzerland), the app asks for your consent with Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) before personalised ads are shown.
- Our kids learning apps are child-directed and follow Google Play’s Families policy.
1. Information stored on your device
Our games save things like sound and language settings, stars, best scores, unlocked levels and your ad-consent choice in the app’s private storage on your phone. This data does not leave your device unless Android’s own backup is turned on (handled by Google under your Google account settings). Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage deletes it.
2. Advertising (Google AdMob)
Our free apps use the Google Mobile Ads SDK. Depending on the app, ads may appear as rewarded ads you choose to watch, interstitial ads between finished games, banners on menu screens, and app-open ads when you return to the app. No ad plays during a match. The SDK may collect and share with Google:
- device and app information (model, operating system, app version, language, IP address used to estimate an approximate region);
- the Android advertising ID (in apps for a general audience), which you can reset or delete in Android Settings › Privacy › Ads;
- ad interactions and diagnostics (impressions, taps, crashes of the ad SDK).
Google uses this data as an independent controller under its own policy: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and Google Privacy Policy. You can change your ad consent choice with the Privacy options button where the app offers one, and you can opt out of personalised ads in your device settings.
Our general-audience apps request ads with a maximum content rating of PG. In child-directed apps every ad request is tagged as child-directed with a maximum rating of G, ads are non-personalised, and the advertising ID is not used. Chess Offline currently shows no ads.
3. Children
Funzoo, Funzoo 2 and our other general-audience games are made for a general audience aged 13 and over. Our kids learning apps (Kitty’s ABC & Bunny’s 123) are designed for children aged 3–7: they do not collect personal information from children, ads are child-directed, non-personalised and family-safe, and they follow Google Play’s Families policy and COPPA-style requirements. If you believe a child has given us personal information (for example by emailing us), contact us and we will delete it.
4. Optional online features
Some apps offer optional features that connect to other services, such as online play with a Lichess account in Chess Offline, or local Wi-Fi games between phones in Hide & Run 3D. These are explained in the app’s own policy and only start when you choose to use them.
5. This website and the browser games
- The website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and protect against abuse. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- We do not use advertising or tracking cookies on this website. Fonts are served from our own domain.
- The browser games under /play save progress only in your browser’s local storage. They show no ads.
- If you use the contact or “notify me” forms, the details you type (name, email, message) are delivered to us through Formspree (privacy policy) or your own email app, and are used only to reply to you or to send the one launch email you asked for.
6. Emails you send us
If you email us, we use your message and address only to answer you. We keep support emails for up to 24 months and then delete them, unless we need them longer to resolve a dispute.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR, India’s DPDP Act or US state laws), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. Because our apps keep game data only on your device, the quickest way to delete it is to uninstall the app. For data held by Google for ads, use Google’s tools linked above. For anything else, email hello@hornbillgames.com.
8. Security and retention
We keep the information we hold to a minimum. On-device data stays until you delete it. Form submissions and emails are stored in our mailbox and form provider with access limited to the studio.
9. Changes
We will update this page when our apps or the services they use change, and change the effective date above. Important changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
