1. What the app stores on your device
- settings and board theme
- puzzle rating, statistics, lesson progress and saved games
- your Lichess access token, if you log in
This data stays in the app’s private storage. We cannot see it. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage removes it.
2. Ads
Chess Offline shows no ads and contains no advertising SDK. If that changes, we will update this policy before the update ships.
3. Optional online play with Lichess
Everything except online play works without the internet. If you choose “Login with Lichess”, the app opens lichess.org in your browser using OAuth (PKCE). You sign in on Lichess’s own site; the app never sees your password. Lichess returns an access token that the app stores only on your phone and uses to talk directly to the Lichess API for seeking opponents, playing moves, and showing your games. We do not receive or store your Lichess data.
When you play online, your moves, username and game data are processed by Lichess under the Lichess privacy policy. You can log out in the app at any time, which deletes the token from your phone, and you can revoke the app’s access from your Lichess account settings.
The puzzles bundled in the app come from the Lichess open database (CC0). No data is sent to Lichess unless you use online play.
4. Permissions
- Internet (only for optional Lichess play)
- Vibration (move feedback)
